Why Take Bromelain With Quercetin?
One reason supplement companies combine these ingredients is quercetin's relatively poor absorption in its standard form.
Researchers have tested several ways to improve quercetin bioavailability. A 2025 systematic review looked at 31 human intervention studies and found that quercetin absorption varied greatly depending on its chemical form and delivery system.
Certain phospholipid, cyclodextrin, and galactomannan formulations produced much higher bioavailability than standard quercetin aglycone. Bromelain was not identified among the better-established absorption strategies in that review. (1)
So, can bromelain help quercetin absorption?
There is a biological argument for combining them, and the idea appears frequently in supplement literature. What is missing is strong human pharmacokinetic research showing exactly how much bromelain raises blood levels of quercetin.
That does not mean the combination has no value. It simply means we should not treat better absorption as a proven fact.
The ingredients may also complement each other in another way. Quercetin has antioxidant and inflammatory effects of its own, while bromelain contains proteolytic enzymes that have been studied for inflammatory processes.

Most of the benefits associated with this combination come from research on the individual ingredients. That distinction matters when judging how strong each claim really is.
May Help With Seasonal Allergy Symptoms
Quercetin has some interesting human evidence related to seasonal allergies.
In a randomized, double-blind study, 66 adults aged 22 to 78 with pollen-related allergy symptoms took either 200 mg of a bioavailable quercetin formulation or a placebo every day for four weeks.
Compared with placebo, people taking quercetin reported improvements in several symptoms, including eye itching, sneezing, nasal discharge, sleep problems, and quality-of-life measures. Minor adverse effects were reported during the trial. (2)
One important detail gets lost on many supplement pages: the study tested quercetin, not quercetin combined with bromelain.
So, this trial supports quercetin's potential role in allergy-related symptoms. It does not prove that adding bromelain makes the effect stronger.
May Support Sinus Comfort
Bromelain has its own history of research in sinus conditions.
A systematic review examining herbal medicines for rhinosinusitis found three randomized controlled trials involving bromelain. Two looked at acute sinusitis, while another included people with acute and chronic sinusitis.
The trials reported some positive findings, and pooled results from two acute sinusitis studies suggested that adding bromelain may improve certain symptoms. Still, the researchers described the evidence as limited. (3)
A later systematic review and meta-analysis covering 54 clinical papers also found some evidence suggesting oral bromelain may help with sinusitis and modestly reduce pain. (4)
That gives bromelain a reasonable research basis for sinus-related support, but it is not the same as having strong evidence for quercetin plus bromelain as one treatment.
May Support a Healthy Inflammatory Response
Both ingredients interact with pathways involved in inflammation, which is one reason they appear together so frequently.
A systematic review of randomized clinical trials identified seven studies looking at bromelain, alone or alongside other compounds, and inflammatory markers in adults. Several reported reductions in inflammatory markers. (5)
Quercetin has also been widely researched for its antioxidant and inflammatory activity.
Still, changes in laboratory markers do not always translate into a noticeable difference in symptoms. That point becomes clear when we look at exercise recovery.
What About Muscle Soreness and Exercise Recovery?
Bromelain sometimes appears in supplements marketed for post-workout recovery, but the results are not consistently positive.
In one randomized, double-blind study, 39 participants completed an exercise protocol designed to cause delayed-onset muscle soreness.
They then received:

Researchers tracked pain, range of motion, and muscle torque for up to 96 hours.

Does Quercetin Work Better With Bromelain?
There is not enough human evidence to say confidently that quercetin works better when combined with bromelain.
This is one of the biggest gaps in the research. Some studies have tested formulas containing both ingredients, but they also included other compounds.
For example, one clinical study involving 429 hospitalized adults with COVID-19 compared standard medical care with a supplement containing 1,000 mg quercetin, 1,000 mg vitamin C, and 100 mg bromelain per day. The supplement group had different clinical outcomes in several areas. (7)
However, vitamin C was part of the formula, and the participants were hospitalized patients with moderate-to-severe respiratory symptoms.
